Concentration, clearly explained
Know the difference between mass, volume, concentration, and the marks on a syringe.
Published version 1Overview
Mass and volume measure different things. Milligrams and micrograms express mass. Milliliters express volume. One milligram equals 1,000 micrograms. A concentration relates a quantity of substance to a volume of solution.
Further context 2
Arithmetic does not prescribe. The calculator uses quantities you enter to show concentration and corresponding volume. It does not choose an appropriate amount or establish whether a preparation is stable, sterile, compatible, or suitable for administration.
Further context 3
Read the scale explicitly. A syringe scale expresses volume according to a specific calibration. On a U-100 scale, 100 markings correspond to one milliliter. Those markings must not be confused with a substance’s biological activity units.
